I weave together allegory and symbolism from the Bible, and the heroism of the protagonist is meant to inspire the reader. We are all heroes to someone or can be if we allow God to be first in our lives.

Love and forgiveness are virtues that both protagonists must learn. The Seventh Dimension Series begins in Atlanta, Georgia, but quickly moves to Israel. The reader soon finds himself in the first century, and stories from the life of Jesus Christ are woven into the plot. As the reader progresses through the story, he is exposed to many religions and worldviews including Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism; and he goes on a memorable trip to heaven and hell.

Many relevant topics are addressed that young adults will have explored in school, among friends, or been exposed to through the media—evolution versus creationism, globalism versus nationalism, socialism versus capitalism, adoption versus abortion, and Christianity versus occultism. Spiritual warfare is a recurring theme, and there are talking animals, special gifts, and much more that I will let the reader discover for himself.

The Kingdom of God draws near and the spiritual landscape changes, with untold challenges and a prevalent culture of deception and evil. It is shortly before the arrival of the Messiah when Daniel receives a great mission. But he is shaken by a powerful revelation concerning the fate of his father. Follow him as he navigates great challenges, faces the horrors of the Day of the Lord and remains steadfast in his love for Shale and Shira.  When the story begins, readers are treated to a wonderful racing experience, with Daniel competing against the ruthless Tariq in a chariot race that ends in a way no one expected. From beginning to end, that’s mostly what the Bible is, a collection of great stories. But there are always a few people who read those stories and think they can tell them better and can adapt them to a tone more suited to a modern reader. Usually, they can’t but sometimes they can. When they get it right, it is a thing of true beauty. That’s what you have in The Howling, Book 6 in the Seventh Dimension series. Lorilyn Roberts has taken parts from all over the Bible and woven them into something new, beautiful, and true to the spirit of the original. I like that it is written for a Young Adult audience. So many of the spiritual books seem to be targeted at older people. I don’t think that’s fair. Young people need spiritual works targeted specifically for them sometimes. The Howling is the last book in the series and though I did not read any of the other books in this series, I have read other books based on this material, so I enjoyed The Howling as a stand-alone story. Having said that, I am probably going to go back and read the series from the beginning and in order. This is what Lorilyn Roberts suggests in the introduction. She assures us that though we get the main story, there is some back story and building blocks that might make a difference. I believe her, though I went ahead and finished this book. The characters were too engaging and the plot too intriguing for me to stop once I picked it up. I love this type of story and I loved this book. I think everyone will but especially those with a Christian background. The Howling is the sixth and final book in the Seventh Dimension Series by Lorilyn Roberts, an engrossing, delightful young adult fantasy that is filled with action, reflecting spiritual realities that are as transporting as they are inspiring. The narrative begins with a chariot race, a spellbinding competition between Daniel Sperling and Tariq, packed with intense emotion as readers watch the two daring competitors, but the race finishes quickly and in the stars. Daniel enters the Seventh Dimension, being one of the Jewish evangelists called by Yeshua and shortly before the return of the Messiah. The kingdom of God is near and there are challenges with a deception taking center stage in the life of the people. Daniel has to persevere and discern the light from falsehood. Can he complete the journey he’s begun without failing?

Daniel’s love for Shale and Shira is one of the themes developed in this story. The events unfold in the first person narrative, including Daniel’s and Shale’s viewpoints, and this allows readers to follow the story from the perspective of each character. The prose is exceptionally good and packed with spiritual symbolism. The chariot race is both an evocation of an era in Jewish history and the symbol of life. The book is filled with insightful and uplifting passages, defying time and space to present a message that inspires readers to look beyond time to see God’s presence in the “now.” Lorilyn Roberts states that “Time is an illusion until God’s appointed times,” thus inviting readers to consider end times from a fresh perspective. Apart from the beautiful prose in The Howling, the story is fast-paced and filled with twists that make for an enjoyable ride. I felt as though the story was taking place in my mind.

The Howling is a work of Christian fantasy fiction written for young adults, penned by author Lorilyn Roberts. Forming the sixth book in the epic adventure series Seventh Dimension, this atmospheric novel continues the tale of Daniel, Shale, and Shira as Daniel enters the world as it was shortly before the Messiah arrives. 

Daniel has a powerful calling from God to fulfill, but the danger level is ever increasing and the fate of his father hangs in the balance after some shocking revelations. Only faith and love will see him have the strength to overcome the horrors he must endure, and unpick the deceptions that the so-called new world order offers.

Christian readers are certain to understand the many biblical references given in the text, which will no doubt enhance their enjoyment all the more of this exciting and dynamic fantasy series

Author Lorilyn Roberts has produced a deep and profound journey quite unlike anything I’ve ever read before, with a cast of truly compelling characters and a message of undying faith, scrutiny of the false, and a deep belief in God’s love in the heart of every hero.

BOOK EXCERPT: SEVENTH DIMENSION - THE HOWLING: A Young Adult Fantasy, Book 6

Chapter 1

My horses, Mosi and Oni, took the lead. I could taste victory—sweet victory. They could run like gazelles when I let them. Just one more lap. I heard the roaring crowd chanting my name.

“Run!” I shouted. We passed Tariq, and a scowl covered his brow. He slapped the reins at me in a last-ditch attempt to yank me off the chariot, but I was a seasoned racer now. No chance of that happening.

We rounded the first turn, and I kept my distance. I didn’t want any more trickery or sleight of hand—like Tariq sawing off my wheel. The other racers had been knocked out or given up. Only Tariq was left, but dropping farther behind. The finish line called my name.

Less than a minute later, I threw up my hands triumphantly. I flicked the reins to slow the horses, and the people drummed their feet in the stands. Celebratory flowers littered the Hippodrome as the fickleness of the spectators never ceased to amaze me. The Romans believed I was a criminal and a Jewish one at that. Now that I was the winner—making risky gamblers wealthy—the crowd was on my side. Besides, everybody loved an underdog.

I relaxed for a moment in all the accolades. The Roman authorities wouldn’t dare arrest me. The last thing Pontius Pilate wanted was a riot on his hands and be called back to Rome.

Now was my turn for sweet revenge. What had Tariq done to my father? And that time traveler who terrified Shale at the inn, Tariq must know who sent him.

I searched for my betrothed and Shira behind Pontius Pilate and his entourage, but I couldn’t find them. Out of nowhere, I saw Much-Afraid scurrying across the racetrack. What was Shale’s dog doing here? Horses and chariots were everywhere. Fear that she might get trampled made me panic.

As I was scheming how to help her, a mysterious cloud settled over the racetrack. Amid the fanfare, I heard someone whisper, “Daniel, the race isn’t over.”

Of course, the race was over. I looked around. Who said that, but I couldn’t see anyone in the fog.

The noise of squeaking wheels and cheering fans began to fade into the distance. When the haze lifted, I saw an open scroll, and Tariq and I were racing again—this time among the stars.

I am excited to be publishing the last book in the Seventh Dimension Series, The Howling. It has taken me six years to write the series, and what a journey it's been.

Daniel and Shale were betrothed by Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew) at the end of the previous book in the series. When they return to the present dimension in Israel, they encounter bombings and danger as the Gog-Magog war begins. They run to a bomb shelter, where a rescue dog finds Shale who can speak to animals. Everyone has their unique gifts of service; Shale has the gift of hearing, and Daniel has the gift of reading minds. Dodging bombs to follow the dog, they discover a young child with her mother dead beside her. The dog reveals her name is Shira, and she has no living relatives. That’s how the newly-engaged couple becomes parents of a three-year-old in the middle of a war predicted in the Bible.

Shale tries to call her mother in America, but the electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack by Korea has disrupted all communication there. It may be safer to continue their search for Daniel’s father in the first century, back where Daniel first met Shale and raced his chariot against other time travelers. Time travel is accomplished via star-gates opened by CERN and are either controlled by good or evil forces. The Illuminati sent Nidal and Tariq, mercenaries from the future, to first-century Jerusalem in order to steal Bible scrolls telling of Yeshua’s life, death, and resurrection. The Illuminati can track their movement by a skin implant thus assuring they remove every record of Yeshua’s existence. Daniel’s brother, Jacob, has access to a government star-gate. Demons try to stop their travel, but an angel delivers Daniel, Shale, and Shira back to the first century. They may not be safe yet. The ventriloquist tries to steal Shira. And what if those who wished to arrest them find out Daniel will race against Tariq’s chariot once more in order to learn the truth about his father?

This novel, the fifth book in the series, combines young adult fantasy with historical fiction. It is written about the times near the end of what Bible scholars call the seven-year tribulation. Previous books in the series covered the first century when Yeshua was on earth. The author uses the cliffhanger technique at the close of each book, and the casual reader who has not read the previous books should thoroughly read the first chapters of this one to help make sense of what is happening.

Teen and young adult readers want to see a life they haven’t seen before. What better vehicle to introduce Biblical events than through time travel? There is also movement between the present dimension and the seventh, or Spiritual, dimension. The Prescience is the title of a book from God’s library in the Genesis garden; it reveals Biblical events to those who love and serve God. Reading in it, Daniel sees his future as one of the 144,000 young Jewish preachers who will testify to Israel about Yeshua. Daniel has the seal on his forehead to prove it.

Life lessons mix with the buzzwords. Daniel explains to Shale that people can have many futures. When she requested to marry Daniel, her future was changed because she missed the rapture and is now alive during the tribulation. Another learning experience happens when the couple leaves the garden by train. As it begins to fill up, Shale hears the occupants bleating like sheep and goats. She imagines seeing the car floor dirty with excrement and urine until she experiences compassion enough to see them as people too. It is a test all must pass who wish to be compassionate.

Daniel and Shale, a recently engaged (betrothed) couple, found a lost orphan girl in Jerusalem and try to save her from the devastated city. From there, they embark on God’s plan and return to the first century and search for Daniel’s father who has gone missing. Finding his father could be the first step in unraveling the mystery of a tragedy that is waiting to happen. However, it is proving to be more dangerous and difficult than both of them ever thought. There are far too many enemies and dangers awaiting them, and all they can do is fight them together. But can they? 

With religious themes mixed with coming of age, the novel is definitely very different and the author seems to be in her element here. I enjoyed the time travel, how the two main characters fought the odds together and came out victorious in the end. Although I have not read the previous novels in the series, I still enjoyed it and caught up with the story really quickly. The story was fast-paced and entertaining. Right from the beginning, the story gripped my attention. The chemistry between Shale and Daniel was perfect; they respected each other with intensity and worked together as a team. The element of time travel was spot on; the author ensured that the characters, the dialogues, and even the environment were time appropriate. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about the novel! A really entertaining coming of age story."
