HOW CAN WE WIN MORE YOUNG PEOPLE TO CHRIST: Christian Blogger Lorilyn Roberts

I would like to give away some copies of Seventh Dimension - The Door for Christmas.

I'm going to share something that's been on my heart for a while, and I'll select a winner from those who leave a comment.

Even though I’m not as young as I used to be, I still love young adult books, probably because I remember how much I enjoyed reading books as a teen. When I was twelve, I remember falling in love with Jesus, or, more succinctly, I remember the first time I felt loved by Him unconditionally.

In many ways, I was Shale Snyder from the Seventh Dimension Series - bullied, smart, and insecure, and spent my early years in a broken home. My childhood pet, Gypsy, came to me much like Much-Afraid did with Shale, unexpected and miraculously, and I had a dark secret I never wanted to share with anyone.

But enough of the similarities. Through the years, I’ve come to appreciate how much writing has helped me to grow as a person. When I write, I clear out cobwebs from my mind. More often than not, they are lies I’ve spun from mistakes rooted in condemnation.

I remove stones from my heart that weigh me down, and I escape into this beautiful dimension of enchantment as I commune with God, my Lord, and Savior. Sometimes it’s hard to turn off that voice in my head at night when I go to bed. I just want to create stories.

As I look at young adults today, their world is different from my world of long ago. Teens have so much more materially than I ever had. I didn't grow up with much in the way of those kinds of things. I read books.

My life was forever changed when I discovered I could read at the age of eight. You see, as strange as it may sound for an award-winning author, I was forced to repeat the first grade because I couldn’t read.

If I could give one bit of advice to the young people of today, it would be this: You can make your plans, but the final outcome is in God’s hands (My paraphrasing of Proverbs 16:9).

I believe the affluence of America today has hindered the appetite of many for the things of God. Young people see what we have in America as theirs, and while our country has its flaws, it’s still the greatest nation in the world.

If you are willing to work hard at something, you can succeed. If you are eager to get an education and work hard at something, you can be an achiever. If you are willing to postpone gratification, work hard, get an education, and make many sacrifices, you stand a good chance of achieving your dreams.

Maybe you want to be a professional basketball player. Perhaps you long to be a lawyer. The list is only as short as you make it.
Practically anything is achievable because America is great and opportunities abound.

But what happens when stuff happens? When things don’t turn out the way you thought they would? When tragedy strikes?

I remember many years ago going somewhere with one of my daughters and the family of a friend of hers. She was a teenager at the time, and I remember getting into a discussion with my daughter’s friend’s father. He surprised me by something he said. His comment basically was this: “Why talk about the end times with our kids. Let them live their life, get married, and have a family. They don’t want to think about the world coming to an end or the Lord’s return. They just want to live their life.”

I didn’t have a good response to him at that time because I remembered struggling with that same thought also when I was young. There is one particular memory I recall as if it happened yesterday.

I was putting my husband through medical school at the time, and he was in his second year of a four-year residency. We were watching a show on HBO, and basically, it was a documentary focusing on an end-time scenario, primarily based on the writings of Nostradamus (not the Bible).

That was back in the days before I knew not to trust such writers. While there might be a degree of uncanny accuracy in what they say, it’s not based on the Bible, and therefore will never be a hundred percent accurate. Anyone who predicts anything that is not one hundred percent accurate is not a prophet of God. Occultists are relying on demonic powers, and the Bible tells us not to listen to them.

I digress. That's not the point of this article. The point is, as I sat there and watched the documentary with my then-husband, in my heart, I was telling myself, I don't want the end to come. I don't want Christ to return.

Not after doing all this work and putting my husband through medical school. I want to have children, buy a big house with a pool, and enjoy the fruits of what we’ve worked so hard for. That hard work was arduous labor for me as a court reporter. I put in long hours in a small town that didn't think women should make more than minimum wage.

I wish I knew back then what I know now. And it is this: We long for the things of this world because we have no idea what better things God has in store for us in the next.

And while the years pass by, we fill our hearts with material things. We get married, and husbands commit adultery. We raise children who rebel against us. Young people turn from the Lord and go their own way. I personally know of two Christian families that had sons who committed suicide. I know of other Christian families whose children have chosen alternative lifestyles.

You see, we can make our plans, but because we live in a fallen world, sooner or later, we will face adversity. However, the imperfections of life in some ways can become a blessing. Without suffering, I don’t believe we can become all that God created us to be because He created us for so much more. Pain allows us to turn something meant for evil into good.

Ringing the bell when I finished my year-long treatment for breast cancer

It is out of our suffering that we learn obedience, and in our willingness, we see God. We see beyond this world into the next. We know that we weren’t made for a fallen world - we were made for perfection in the future one.

Recently, I went to the “Understanding the Times Prophecy Conference” in Minneapolis. As I looked around at the audience of six thousand people, I didn't see a single young person. I expected to see at least a couple, perhaps some homeschooling families who brought their teens. But nada, not one.

My heart’s desire is to win over young people to Christ. As I wrote many times throughout the Seventh Dimension Series, “time is an illusion until God’s appointed time.”

It’s true that most young people will have many years to live before God calls them home, but Jesus could return tomorrow. Death is only a heartbeat away. If only I could encourage young people to know Christ personally and to live their life for Him and not for themselves.

I won’t reveal the final scene in the last book of the Seventh Dimension Series, The Howling, but the idea is “to occupy” until God returns. That means for young people to live their life, get an education, raise their family, and enjoy life, but live for the glory of God, live to share God with others, live in a way that brings honor to Jesus Christ. Young people need to have a personal relationship with their Savior and live as if God could come back at any time. I believe the priorities for most young people do not put Christ first.

We must not live to please our own appetite. We should occupy until God’s return or until He calls us home. That’s a vastly different mindset than I could have imagined that day when my then-husband and I watched that apocalyptic HBO pseudo-documentary. I didn’t want to live for God. I wanted God to let me live the way I wanted to live. And in His mercy, He did. He showed me a better way, and it was a way of suffering.

So my question is, how can we get young people, teens, and young adults to realize how quickly time flies, that time is an illusion, and as James 4:4 says, our lives are merely a vapor, here for a little while, and then gone?

When we look around at the world today, we can’t help but come to the conclusion that God has made us for so much more. How do we get young people to seize this day, this hour, this moment, for Jesus Christ?

I’ve written the Seventh Dimension Series in hopes of reaching those who, like me, love to read. While it’s a dwindling number of teens, I believe our future leaders of tomorrow are the young people who read today. A person can’t learn all he needs to know to live well only through personal experience.

Reading opens the door to biographies of famous people, traveling to other places, and “tasting” different cultures. For the creative ones, reading can take a person to faraway places in time and space, as in the Seventh Dimension Series

Books can teach the reader about God in ways he is unlikely to learn any other way. That’s one reason why God gave us the Bible, which includes sixty-six books written by many authors. Life is just too short to experience everything personally. But vicariously, a reader can experience so much more, and in my opinion, it can be better than a trip to Theme Parks.

What do you think? Please share your thoughts in the comments, and I will choose some winners to receive a signed copy of The Door.

GUEST POST BY CAROL A. BROWN: Review of Seventh Dimension Mini Box Series, Books One, Two, and Three

October 26, 2019
Format: Kindle Edition

Gripping. This set is filled with action and drama. It is historical fiction, sci-fi fantasy, and time travel all in one! I really enjoyed it and appreciated the Christian worldview. This whole series has nearly nonstop action throughout! The Door starts out in Shale’s modern-day Florida, but quickly shifts to the 7th Dimension. The King and The Castle take place in and around the city of Jerusalem relative to the crucifixion of Jesus. Shale quickly becomes a believer in Yeshua as Messiah, but Daniel struggles with all the issues present-day secular Jews struggle with. He sees the events leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection with his own eyes and puts them alongside what he knows from his Hebrew studies, his family and friends from modern times, his own reading of the Bible; it creates a unique dilemma of faith. He learns forgiveness firsthand and is almost immediately tested. Woven through the story is the thread of a repeated dream or vision of his father who disappeared. Finding him becomes Daniel’s quest.

Characters & Setting: Characters were well developed. In addition to Shale and Daniel, you meet Romans, Arabs, lepers, religious leaders, a compassionate doctor, and ordinary everyday people trying to survive and make a living. You will meet strange spiritual beings, talking animals and see it all through the eyes of Shale, a run-away teen, feeling abandoned and isolated, and Daniel, a modern, secular Jewish pre-med student who along with Shale, was transported into the times of Christ—a time before modern technology. It portrays the struggles secular Jews have with believing that Jesus could ever be the long-awaited Messiah.

Themes teens relate to:
• unfairness
• injustice
• not listening and/or not taking people seriously
• the struggle to believe when your culture and training have taught you not to

Writing Craft: Vivid imagery in her writing creates mental images that stay with the reader. She did an excellent job incorporating the teachings of Jesus into the resolution of Shale’s problems. Well plotted!

Recommendations: This is a set that I could recommend to teens interested in fantasy, who are dealing with similar issues as those Shale encountered, or faith issues such as Daniel faced. I would recommend it to anyone struggling with intellectual issues with Jesus or persons who struggle against the pull of their culture. I would also recommend it to adults/parents of troubled teens to help give them an understanding from a teen perspective.

NEW BOOK VIA STANDARD NEWSWIRE PRESS RELEASE: “Seventh Dimension - The Howling: A Young Adult Fantasy”

Seventh Dimension - The Howling: A Young Adult Fantasy, New Release, Completing the Epic Six Volume Series
NEWS PROVIDED BY
Rear Guard Publishing
Sept. 18, 2019

GAINESVILLE, Fla., Sept. 18, 2019 /Standard Newswire/ -- Seventh Dimension – The Howling, the sixth and final book in the Seventh Dimension Series, is now available wherever books are sold. Daniel Sperling, one of the protagonists, enters the seventh dimension shortly before the return of the Messiah. As one of the 144,000 Jewish evangelists called by Yeshua, the horrors of the Day of the Lord take center stage.

The Seventh Dimension Series racks up its 35th award with The Howling winning the 2019 Readers' Favorite Bronze Award for Young Adult religious fiction. The series has a 4.6 rating out of five stars on Amazon with two hundred reviews.

"The unexamined life toys with mediocrity, squelches creativity, and risks squandering God's redemptive call," Lorilyn says. "My desire in writing the Seventh Dimension Series, which took seven years, was to make the reader think. The millennial generation must be challenged to read more, question more, and consider the most critical question of all—where will he spend eternity?

"The Seventh Dimension Series invites evangelical Christians, homeschooling families, Messianic Jews, spiritually hungry young adults, and wanderers who are not lost to consider their purpose in an increasingly hostile world. Readers familiar with the works of C.S. Lewis and John Bunyan will see their influence in my words. These classical authors helped to shape my worldview and inspired me to pursue my calling as a writer.

"As a former homeschooling mother, I've become more reflective in my golden years. When my children reached adulthood, I embarked on a deeper spiritual quest. A.W. Tozer, Charles Spurgeon, Nabeel Qureshi, Chuck Missler, Dr. Michael L. Brown, Pastor Steve Cioccolanti, Amir Tsarfati, Pastor J.D. Farag, researcher/author Thomas Horn, as well as many others, living and deceased, inspired me to live more passionately for Jesus Christ. Without their spiritual insights, forward-thinking, and apologetic approach to Scripture, I could not have written the Seventh Dimension Series. May God receive the glory."

BOOK REVIEW: “Seventh Dimension - the Howling: A Young Adult Fantasy,” Five Stars from Readers’ Favorite Reviewer Romuald Dzemo

    BOOK REVIEW
Reviewed by Romuald Dzemo for Readers' Favorite

The Howling: A Young Adult Christian Fantasy is the sixth book in the Seventh Dimension Series by Lorilyn Roberts, a story told in atmospheric prose that follows the spiritual journey of a compelling character — Daniel Sperling. The Kingdom of God draws near and the spiritual landscape changes, with untold challenges and a prevalent culture of deception and evil. It is shortly before the arrival of the Messiah when Daniel receives a great mission. But he is shaken by a powerful revelation concerning the fate of his father. Follow him as he navigates great challenges, faces the horrors of the Day of the Lord and remains steadfast in his love for Shale and Shira.

When the story begins, readers are treated to a wonderful racing experience, with Daniel competing against the ruthless Tariq in a chariot race that ends in a way no one expected. The religious symbolism of the race is beautifully captured and the reader immediately understands that time doesn’t exist in the spiritual realm — it is an illusion. I enjoyed the powerful use of religious symbolism and allusion, and the relationship between Daniel Sperling and Shale Snyder, a love so strong it continues to inspire the hero of the story and acts as an anchor for him. The author uses visions and supernatural experiences to lift the minds of readers and transport them from their immediate surroundings, just as the case of the protagonist.

The writing is gorgeous and crisp and filled with wonderful descriptions, from action-packed scenes to emotionally rich encounters, to awe-inspiring moments of spiritual ecstasy. The Howling is a book that will inspire readers and make them look beyond their physical experience of pain to find delight in the hope of a spiritual world that could be theirs. Highly imaginative and skillfully written, the message can’t be mistaken and the reader feels compelled to be one of the Followers of the Way.

GUEST POST BY READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK REVIEWER DIVINE ZAPE: Five Stars Seventh Dimension - The Howling, A Young Adult Fantasy

Reviewed By Divine Zape for Readers’ Favorite

The Howling is the sixth and final book in the Seventh Dimension Series by Lorilyn Roberts, an engrossing, delightful young adult fantasy that is filled with action, reflecting spiritual realities that are as transporting as they are inspiring. The narrative begins with a chariot race, a spellbinding competition between Daniel Sperling and Tariq, packed with intense emotion as readers watch the two daring competitors, but the race finishes quickly and in the stars. Daniel enters the Seventh Dimension, being one of the Jewish evangelists called by Yeshua and shortly before the return of the Messiah. The kingdom of God is near and there are challenges with a deception taking center stage in the life of the people. Daniel has to persevere and discern the light from falsehood. Can he complete the journey he’s begun without failing?

Daniel’s love for Shale and Shira is one of the themes developed in this story. The events unfold in the first person narrative, including Daniel’s and Shale’s viewpoints, and this allows readers to follow the story from the perspective of each character. The prose is exceptionally good and packed with spiritual symbolism. The chariot race is both an evocation of an era in Jewish history and the symbol of life. The book is filled with insightful and uplifting passages, defying time and space to present a message that inspires readers to look beyond time to see God’s presence in the “now.” Lorilyn Roberts states that “Time is an illusion until God’s appointed times,” thus inviting readers to consider end times from a fresh perspective. Apart from the beautiful prose in The Howling, the story is fast-paced and filled with twists that make for an enjoyable ride. I felt as though the story was taking place in my mind.

Quotable Quote from The Howling

The wiry man whipped out his hand and pointed with a dramatic flair. “Have a seat. If you qualify after this demonstration, you’ll be given a special seat in the real dream reaper.” I looked behind the salesman at a most unusual contraption.

The woman was in her late twenties or early thirties and appeared to be in good health. Youth was leaving her, as it does for all of us, but she was too immature to have attained wisdom.

The woman poured out her heart to the stranger in extraordinary detail, expounding on all the unfair and unjust things that had happened to her, leading to a life in the gutter of despair. Always the victim, she wallowed in self-pity and rejection.

The merchant smiled. “You’re just the right person for the dream reaper. You deserve better. Don’t worry about the cost. You can pay it off in the next thirty years before your date with death.”

BOOK REVIEW: “Seventh Dimension – The Howling: A Young Adult Fantasy,” Five stars from Readers' Favorite Reviewer K.C. Finn

Five Stars
Reviewed By K.C. Finn for Readers’ Favorite

The Howling is a work of Christian fantasy fiction written for young adults, penned by author Lorilyn Roberts. Forming the sixth book in the epic adventure series Seventh Dimension, this atmospheric novel continues the tale of Daniel, Shale, and Shira as Daniel enters the world as it was shortly before the Messiah arrives.

Daniel has a powerful calling from God to fulfill, but the danger level is ever increasing and the fate of his father hangs in the balance after some shocking revelations. Only faith and love will see him have the strength to overcome the horrors he must endure, and unpick the deceptions that the so-called new world order offers.

Christian readers are certain to understand the many biblical references given in the text, which will no doubt enhance their enjoyment all the more of this exciting and dynamic fantasy series

Author Lorilyn Roberts has produced a deep and profound journey quite unlike anything I’ve ever read before, with a cast of truly compelling characters and a message of undying faith, scrutiny of the false, and a deep belief in God’s love in the heart of every hero.

I particularly liked Daniel and Shale as a central pair, learning from their past experiences and growing up before your eyes with the challenges which they face. The past comes to light in some extraordinary descriptive scenes too, and fans of the Seventh Dimension series are sure to find that The Howling is another excellent continuation of a powerful and poignant collection.

BOOK EXCERPT: SEVENTH DIMENSION - THE HOWLING: A Young Adult Fantasy, Book 6

Chapter 1

My horses, Mosi and Oni, took the lead. I could taste victory—sweet victory. They could run like gazelles when I let them. Just one more lap. I heard the roaring crowd chanting my name.

“Run!” I shouted. We passed Tariq, and a scowl covered his brow. He slapped the reins at me in a last-ditch attempt to yank me off the chariot, but I was a seasoned racer now. No chance of that happening.

We rounded the first turn, and I kept my distance. I didn’t want any more trickery or sleight of hand—like Tariq sawing off my wheel. The other racers had been knocked out or given up. Only Tariq was left, but dropping farther behind. The finish line called my name.

Less than a minute later, I threw up my hands triumphantly. I flicked the reins to slow the horses, and the people drummed their feet in the stands. Celebratory flowers littered the Hippodrome as the fickleness of the spectators never ceased to amaze me. The Romans believed I was a criminal and a Jewish one at that. Now that I was the winner—making risky gamblers wealthy—the crowd was on my side. Besides, everybody loved an underdog.

I relaxed for a moment in all the accolades. The Roman authorities wouldn’t dare arrest me. The last thing Pontius Pilate wanted was a riot on his hands and be called back to Rome.

Now was my turn for sweet revenge. What had Tariq done to my father? And that time traveler who terrified Shale at the inn, Tariq must know who sent him.

I searched for my betrothed and Shira behind Pontius Pilate and his entourage, but I couldn’t find them. Out of nowhere, I saw Much-Afraid scurrying across the racetrack. What was Shale’s dog doing here? Horses and chariots were everywhere. Fear that she might get trampled made me panic.

As I was scheming how to help her, a mysterious cloud settled over the racetrack. Amid the fanfare, I heard someone whisper, “Daniel, the race isn’t over.”

Of course, the race was over. I looked around. Who said that, but I couldn’t see anyone in the fog.

The noise of squeaking wheels and cheering fans began to fade into the distance. When the haze lifted, I saw an open scroll, and Tariq and I were racing again—this time among the stars.

I am excited to be publishing the last book in the Seventh Dimension Series, The Howling. It has taken me six years to write the series, and what a journey it's been.

The full six-volume set is now available on Amazon at the low price of $9.99. Click here to learn more. It is also FREE in Kindle Unlimited for a limited time!

BOOK EXCERPT: SEVENTH DIMENSION – THE HOWLING: A Young Adult Fantasy, “Sneak Peek at an Underwater Scene”

Sometimes writing evokes deep emotions. I have been working on The Howling for close to a year, and I just wrote a scuba diving scene that takes place in the Red Sea. That was one of the places I dove many years ago, having made over a hundred dives all over the world.

When I began writing these chapters, memories resurfaced, nostalgic sentimentality, and surprisingly, gratefulness. Today was my birthday. I just turned sixty-three and am one year out following my year-long battle with breast cancer.

I see every day I'm here as a gift, and when I think back to my diving years, I am reminded how quickly time goes by and what's really important when we get closer to the end of our journey. What a blessed life God has given me.

With those thoughts as a backdrop, I decided to share a short excerpt I wrote tonight. Those who have read previous books in the series will wonder how this scene fits into the story--but I shall not spoil it. I hope The Howling will be the best book in the Seventh Dimension Series yet.

I followed Maurice along the colorful shelf where clownfish darted in and out of sea anemones. From the shimmering schools of fish to the tiny, shy creatures lurking under overhanging crevasses, God spoke to me, even if that voice was only to evoke in me a longing for more.

How can we fathom the depths of God's handiwork in the window of the deep? Can we know the inner workings of the tiny seahorse or understand the symbiosis between the known and the unknown?

My mind wondered as I videotaped the extraordinary beauty. I marveled how the masterful artist spoke this world into being before he created man.  Extravagant love blessed these waters and said it was good. Who could deny it came from a stroke of genius except for someone who didn't want to believe in God?

However, we hadn't gone very far when our surroundings changed. The protective wall was a death trap. Heaped upon the sandy bottom were skeletons of decomposed fish. Did death have a voice?

I heard a muffled grating noise. Perhaps it had been there all along, just drowned out by our regulators and the normal rhythmic heartbeat of the sea. I shot the video in all directions to capture the disturbing changes.

The euphoria of being beneath the waters after such a long absence evaporated. The rainbow world of the deep had become a morbid cemetery. The vibrant colors of living coral were nothing more than whitewashed tombstones. Devoid of life, this part of the Red Sea was now a ghost town.

Maurice and I exchanged glances. Something had tarnished the ecosystem and brought death here.

The water became warmer as we glided along the shelf. Maurice wrote something on his slate and held it up—water temp?

I took his slate and wrote, “global warming?”

He shook his head, putting the slate back in his pocket. We followed the shelf until it leveled off and we came to a white sandy bottom. I checked the depth gauge—sixty-five feet.

Maurice wandered away from me a short distance and swam back, urgently signaling me to follow him. His eyes were as big as bowling balls.
